In the Spring of 1994, four Emory University students decided to perform at "Open Mic Nite" at what is now the site of Dooley's Depot. At that time, there were no a capella groups at Emory, and most of the groups that performed at Open Mic Nite were bands. Not being a band, the four students thought it would be appropriate to name their group "No Strings Attached." Their first songs were simple, but they were an instant success.
The next fall, No Strings Attached (NSA) announced auditions, and over 40 students came. The group chose talented students who lead NSA for the next four years. The founding members graduated, but their mission: "To instill school spirit at Emory" is kept alive to this day.
Besides their two concerts every year (Fall and Spring), NSA is asked to perform at many Emory events for alumni and students and they have been on five concert tours. They have performed at many notable Emory University events, most recently the Professorship Installation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Additionally, NSA has performed at Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Hawks, and Atlanta Falcons games, at the legendary Fox Theatre, and for President Bill Clinton, Kevin Nealon, Jerry Springer, Maya Angelou, Hank Aaron, Ted Turner, Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue and others. NSA has released six albums and has appeared on BOCA III and BOCA 2K, compilations featuring the best of collegiate a capella.
